The Checkers Drop on the 2023 Virginia Assembly – Time To Go Racing!

The Virginia General Assembly wrapped up its work at a furious pace in order to adjourn “sine die” (latin for “without day”—which means that its now gone from the Capitol, “indefinitely”), with tempers flaring, bills either living or dying, and a still-undecided battle raging over the Virginia State Budget.

Hermie and the Senator go over the last days of the 2023 General Assembly session – the ups, the downs, and the still unknowns. They even have an interesting discussion on how Senator Stanley’s legislative agenda fared during session, and how a great bill that he sponsored that would have helped students in our rural and urban areas may have actually been killed because of Hermie and Bill’s successful lawsuit on behalf of the small business owner and skill games. Hermie and Bill also talk about the status of Hermie’s race for the Virginia State Senate, and take a look at the upcoming 2023 SMART and WHELEN open-wheel modified race seasons for Sadler/Stanley Racing with Bobby Labonte and Ryan Newman behind the wheel of their two-car team!

In the second segment, Senator Stanley sits down for a compelling political and regional discussion with his friend, Democrat State Senator Dave Marsden. Listen as both senators discuss the philosophical differences between Republicans and Democrats, as well as the issue that transcends party affiliation in Virginia: Regionalism. Bill and Dave even discuss ways that all regions can come together for the betterment of the Commonwealth. And that even though the two senators don’t agree on some issues, they still try to work together to solve the issues that all Virginians care about — like the Envigo Beagles! As Larry The Cable Guy says in the show’s opening, grab a beer and pull up a chair close to your phone, and give them fellas a listen to another great episode of “Leaning Right and Turning Left With Sadler and The Senator.”
